The International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) meets every three years, and in 2019 the meeting took place in early June at Tsinghua University in Beijing. A major part of the opening ceremony of this Congress is the award of gold and silver medals to recognize the outstanding research achievements of Chinese mathematicians. On June 7, 2019 Zhengwei Liu received a silver medal. This honor received considerable media and internet attention within China. Zhengwei Liu was the youngest of the 2019 honorees.
